302C – Introduction to Establishing Online and Telemental Health Practice

Course Description

This course is designed to assist you in launching your career as a telemental health professional. Consistent with any other areas of career development, becoming a telemental health provider is a process. In our experience, telemental health professionals report that it takes 3 to 9 months to complete start up. There are many steps that can be accomplished rather quickly.

The course addresses numerous factors related to career and practice development, including:

  • Business Planning
  • Marketing
  • Professional relationships and affiliations
  • Office set-up/staging
  • Equipment
  • Licensure
  • Credentialing with 3rd party payers

Course Objectives

  • Name 5 basic steps to getting started
  • Identify two essential parts to structuring a Telemental Health Service/Practice
  • Describe two steps to assure adequate protection from one’s malpractice liability carrier
  • Intelligently discuss the role and functions of professional affiliations, professional relationships and related resources in setting up a new practice
  • Name at least 5 essential pieces of technology to maintain a telepractice from one’s home or brick-and-mortar office
  • Describe how to set up and manage relationships with at least 2 of the most common reimbursement sources
  • Identify at least 3 ways to think about employment arrangement within reimbursable healthcare
  • Describe 3 ways to prevent or manage client/patient emergencies
