TBHI was envisioned, funded and nurtured by Dr. Marlene Maheu with strategic support from Myron Pulier, MD and Joseph McMenamin, MD, JD. After more than a decade of collaborative work in behavioral telehealth as an author team, Drs. Maheu, Pulier, and McMenamin devoted themselves top developing an international, interprofessional telehealth training center dedicated to helping clinicians and their organizations develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes shown to be most effective for starting or developing their telehealth services. They shared the vision of bringing quality, evidence-based professional training to their colleagues through an easy-to-navigate digital learning center that was funded and managed by Dr. Maheu. Now more than 20 years later, the TBHI Digital Learning Center is housed at telehealth.org
In 2009, TBHI opened its online learning facility to professional colleagues seeking continuing medical education and continuing education training in telehealth, telemental health, and telebehavioral health. An immediate success with Learners from more than 30 countries in the first year, TBHI formally widened its business plan and learning content to include Learners internationally.
