The Telebehavioral Health Institute invites you to recertify your TBHI credential while upgrading to its new credential, the TBHI Board Certified Telehealth Professional Level I or Level II (BCTP-I or BCTP-II).

Transitioning to the BCTP-I or BCTP-II

As you may know, TBHI has been diligently developing the latest in credentialing excellence. TBHI is launching the new BCTP designmation in phases. The first two releases are described below. Although the entire process is not yet finalized, we are delighted to share our current process, invite feedback, and encourage you to share this adventure with us.

February 2020

TBHI announced the release of its new credential, the TBHI Board Certified Telehealth Professional Level I or Level II.

Level I and Level II

  • These designations replace all earlier versions of TBHI credentials
  • These credentials create a learning path of specialized, evidence-based, competency-based training that can be achieved in a matter of days rather than years
  • Connote competency in telebehavioral health, as described in a growing number of peer-reviewed publications

May 2020

TBHI invites all TBHI Learners who completed a 15 or 36-hour Certificate program between 2009 and 2020 to re-certify and automatically become eligible to complete requirements for their corresponding designation: TBHI Board Certified Telehealth Professional Level I or Level II.

All prior TBHI credentials are being retired and will no longer be supported by TBHI after September 30, 2020.

Processes, Training & Fees

Professionals who have earned their previous TBHI designation after March 2017 are invited to recertify without additional training. Those who completed their TBHI training more than 3 years ago are required to take an additional 6 hours of training to re-certify with TBHI’s new credential.

  • All re-certification training is available at 35% off
    • For each additional TBHI course, you will receive a digital badge for your social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.) to distinguish yourself in many of your professional profiles
  • Application and attestation fees are waived for all re-certifications submitted prior to September 1, 2020. Thereafter, a $75 fee will be charged

Board Certified Telehealth Professional Level I or II

  • Your new TBHI Board Certified Telehealth Professional credential is valid for 3 years from the date of issuance
  • Your new certificate is:
    • Available as a downloadable digital file for posting on your website, video waiting room or emailing to designated parties
    • Created in high-resolution graphics, and suitable for framing to proudly frame and post on your wall
    • Can be shared with colleagues or friends and families by posting on many of your social media accounts
    • Can be verified by any third party through TBHI’s trademarked BCTP search engine

Additional BCTP-I or BCTP-II Information

  • Proof of telehealth training from the Telebehavioral Health Institute’s Level I or Level II Training Programs within two years prior to submitting the application for the BCTP™ credential. Any TBHI training obtained as a graduate student, trainee/intern, or as a licensed professional is acceptable.
  • After completing the needed 6 hours of additional TBHI training to transition from your prior TBHI Legacy certificate, you can send an email to TBHI here. In response, you will be directed to TBHI’s application.
  • Next, you will be given attractive  BCTP digital badges to put into your social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.) to distinguish yourself in many of your professional profiles.
  • Both your Micro Certification document and badges can link back to a TBHI-trademarked telehealth database, where interested parties can verify your status and full BCTP Micro Certification.
  • To add a telehealth cherry on top, you will be invited to create a formal listing in TBHI’s new Professional Directory, which will be free to you for the first year. The TBHI Professional Directory is heavily marketed through social media and will serve as an attractive page for potential employers and clients or patients to learn more about you, your services, and your BCTP Micro Certification.
  • Your BCTP Micro Certification badge will be prominently displayed on your profile, letting the world know that you have passed TBHI’s rigorous criteria
  • The directory will allow you to list many other features of your telepractice as well.
  • TBHI’s Professional Directory can serve as the cornerstone of your telepractice marketing plan.

The Board Certified Telehealth Professional designation is valid for three years. Learners will be required to reinstate their credentials by either completing 3 additional CME/CE hours for a total of 9 CME/CE hours per 3-year recertification period.

The fee for the TBHI recertification is waived until September 1, 2020. You are asked to pay for your recertification training if you graduated from a TBHI Certificate program prior to March 2017. Any course that you have not yet taken is available to you to combine for a total of 6 hours, regardless of how long ago you completed your training. However, as stated above, any course can be purchased at 35% off by using this coupon code after selecting your course: 35RECERT. Again, you may go to the TBHI training library to select any new course.

TBHI’s training has variable pricing, depending on your area of interest. An additional charge is levied if, for example, you initiate the BCTP process and request changes to your Micro Certification process after the initial purchase. The administrative change fee is $45.

Yes, both BCTP MIcro Certifications are designed to accommodate the needs of both licensed and unlicensed learners. Further BCTP credentials will require licensure, however. (They will be announced as they are available.)

All previous TBHI Certificates will be sunsetting after September 1, 2020. The database page currently open to the public to verify your current credential will be deleted. We thank you for your interest in our work and wish you well in yours. Please feel free to drop back in at another time.
