ATA Secures CPT Code Correction for Medicare Coverage of Telehealth

CPT CodeThe Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has granted the joint American Telemedicine Association’s and American Psychiatric Association request for immediate action to establish a new billing code covering remotely-delivered inpatient pharmacologic management services. The new code (G0459) augments Medicare funding for psychiatrists and prescribing psychologists who provide rounds for patients with mental disorders in rural hospitals.

The new G-code is a technical correction to the final rule on telehealth policy, effective January 1, 2013. It removes frequency limits for this code.
