Telehealth is heating up as a viable solution to the access problems that plague our healthcare system. The September 22, 2013 Federal Telemedicine News reported the The Capitol Hill briefing “Telehealth and Telemedicine: Adopting New Tools of the Trade.”

The briefing was sponsored on September 13, 2013 by the Alliance for Health Reform and Wellpoint. It discussed how effectively telehealth and telemedicine is advancing to meet healthcare needs.

Panelists included:

  • John Jesser, vice president at WellPoint
  • Sherilyn Pruitt, director of the federal Office for the Advancement of Telehealth, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)
  • Neal Neuberger, executive director, Institute for e-health Policy, Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS)
  • Karen Rheuban, director, Center for Telehealth, University of Virginia Office of Telemedicine

Ed Howard of the Alliance said, “Efforts to promote telehealth and telemedicine could help the millions of people currently projected to obtain health insurance coverage.” The purpose of briefings such as the one above is to help educateand organize stakeholders and decision makers to advance healthcare in the United States.
