Doctor of Philosophy in General Psychology

A first of its kind, the PhD in General Psychology with an Emphasis in Integrating Technology, Learning and Psychology at Grand Canyon University (GCU) focuses on technology and teaches empirical, research-based approaches to understanding mental and thought processes including:

  • memory
  • reasoning
  • intelligence
  • motivation and
  • learning

The technology focus is further explained:

With a focus on Integrating Technology, Learning and Psychology, learners will examine theories and principles including the psychology of applying technology to individuals, organizations and communities while assessing the risks and benefits associated with the use of technology. Social networks have changed the way we communicate and coursework will have learners create strategies for building communities and social networks. Scholars will examine and understand the psychology of change at the organization, community and social network levels.

Geared toward students who already hold a master’s degree and related coursework, this GCU program is a sign that the times are indeed a-changing. It does not necessarily lead to licensure, but does includes a dissertation as well as involvement with the GCU learning community.
