Medicare Relaxes Restrictions for Telehealth Credentialing

MedicareReimbursement rules are a-changing.  Starting July 5, 2011, Medicare will change its credentialing and privileging process for health care professionals providing services through telehealth systems.

Hospitals will no longer be required to credential and privilege individual professionals providing telehealth services. Hospitals now need to be credentialed, rather than each and every practitioner wanting to deliver remote services through technology. This represents a substantial relaxation of previously restrictive rules, and bodes well for reimbursement in the U.S. Full report is available at the TeleMental Health Institute website.
