Looking for a live, interactive training experience to improve your telehealth clinical skills while bringing you up-to-date with COVID-19 policy changes?

The 4-hour Emergency Telehealth Best Practices Clinical Training for COVID-19 has been developed to give you a deep dive into the clinical evidence-based models, tips and strategies for telehealth practice – as well as a quick overview up COVID-19 policy updates.

The main focus of this 1-day intensive, LIVE, interactive, video-based training is on how to prevent and handle clinical problems that can result from quickly migrating your practice to your home. As a course, this program will briefly cover current events, including recent federal changes, critical ethical, legal, and technical issues for the first hour, with the remaining hours focused on the complex clinical challenges that can arise, how to prevent and handle them.

Topics

  • Evidence-based protocols to minimize later complications
  • What to say to educate your client/patient about telehealth
  • Establishing appropriate boundaries and what to do when they fail
  • Maintaining essential privacy protections in your home and your client/patient’s
  • Essential informed consent
  • Cultural Sensitivity
  • Documentation
  • What to do when the connection is lost
  • How to perform essential clinical functions such as gait analyses, hygiene checks, maximizing privacy
  • Controlling your client or patient’s room
  • How to handle intruders  from either your room as the practitioner
  • How to handle intruders  from your client or patient(s) room
  • Setting and maintaining the therapeutic frame
  • Including family members in the session
  • Anxieties about working with technology
  • Clinician self-care
  • Handling requests for clients/patients to stay connected while in other states
  • Evidence-based models for preventing and handling emergencies

This will be a hands-on, practical, interactive experience to allow you to get a true sense of the power of using video conferencing, but it will be tinged with sobering information to keep you professional, focused and in charge of your telehealth interactions. You will participate in a clear discussion of “dos and donts,” along with their rationales, to allow you to make your own clinical decisions for the people that you serve.

Basic competencies covered include documentation requirements, safety protocols and how to effectively involve family members or friends.

This course is designed to be an augmentation and not a replacement for basic telehealth training. You can find options for basic training here in our individual course catalog, as well as the discounted packages that lead to our Basic or Advanced Micro Certifications or All-Access Pass for decision-makers who want to be sure to understand the nuances of policy and practical skill-building.

Time Investment & Post-Tests

Completing the TBHI training will require approximately the same number of CME or CE hours offered with each course. A 6-hour course then will take about 6 hours to complete, depending on how quickly you read. A one-hour course typically involves approximately 10,000 words, minus the words involved with presenting audio and video segments. The course evaluation and post-test will require that you come back into the website to respond to a series of questions. Post-test need to be passed with a grade of 80% or better to get the course completion certificate. (You will have learned a lot, and passing should be no problem. Of more than 8,600 trainees that have come through our doors, only three needed help with post-tests.)

Schedule

TBHI “classes” have no specific start and stop time. All online training is self-paced, accessible 24/7 through your web browser. You are free to train anytime, from anywhere. If your client/patient doesn’t show for their appointment, you can easily engage with your materials online, or in printed form.  Printed training materials are available upon request in PDF format to conveniently travel with you on a plane, train, bus or simply as you lounge in your living room. If you wish to complete all your training in a weekend, a week, a month or over several months – the choice is yours.
