How many CEs does New Jersey require?
- MFTs are required 40 hours every two years, 20 of which may be completed by distance learning
- LACs, LPCs, and LRCs are required 40 hours every two years, all of which may be completed by home study
- CADCs are required 60 hours every two years, 30 of which may be completed by distance learning
- LCADCs are required 40 hours every two years, 20 of which may be completed by distance learning

Other CE Requirements
- 3 hours in social and cultural competence
- 1 hour in opioid drugs, including the risks and signs of opioid abuse, addiction, and diversion
- CADCs and LCADCs – 3 of the 40 hours must be in cultural competence every two years. Beginning with the 2022-2024 renewal period, 3 hours in legal standards related to the practice of alcohol and drug counseling in New Jersey are required every two years. There is also a one-time requirement of 6 hours in legal standards related to the practice of alcohol and drug counseling in New Jersey.
