Patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) will be piloting a new remote monitoring (RPM) technology through Nuvance Health in West Connecticut, one of the first health systems in the United States to pilot RPM with this population. Neuroglee Connect™ is a virtual neurological specialty care program for clinical care teams to provide ongoing, personalized support for patients with MCI and caregivers from their homes. The program includes the use of remote patient monitoring services.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, 12% to 18% of people aged 60 and older currently have MCI in the United States. MCI is an early stage of memory loss or other cognition problems. Issues involve difficulty with language and thinking. While MCI is not a type of dementia, the Alzheimer’s Association estimates 10% to 15% of people with MCI eventually develop dementia every year.
Remote Patient Monitoring Service for Mild Cognitive Impairment
Remote patient monitoring includes digital therapeutics with no approved medications to treat MCI. Current guidelines advocate regular brain stimulation paired with healthy lifestyle habits can be helpful to patients with MCI. Often involving brain stimulation systems that use digital and often Internet-based health technology, digital therapeutics have been shown to help patients with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Digital therapeutics (DTx) involves using evidence-based behavioral treatments delivered online to increase the accessibility and effectiveness of healthcare interventions. They differ from apps, which often lack the scientific testing and approval offered by groups such as the US Federal Drug Administration.
