2017 Press Releases

Many clinicians struggle with reimbursement for telemental health services. This webinar will focus on several successful strategies for getting paid for telepractice. Internationally recognized telehealth expert, Marlene Maheu, Ph.D., is scheduled to present the latest telemental health billing information webinar titled, “Telemental Health Billing & Coding Strategies: Maximizing Reimbursement Today.” The webinar will be broadcast Wednesday, July 26th, 2017 from 2 PM Eastern/11 AM Pacific.

Whether you are a large or small organization, serve as a CEO or billing & coding professional or deliver direct care as an independent practitioner, this webinar will give you clear and concise answers to your most difficult billing questions. Dr. Maheu explains, “While a number of issues still need to be resolved at the national and state levels for telehealth reimbursement to be a given, several time-proven strategies are already working. Equipped with the right information, you can make serious headway toward not only collecting for traditional services rendered, but also for finding innovative ways to bill for additional telehealth services.”

Dr. Maheu further commented, “Telepractice through video conferencing is not only legal and ethical, but reimbursable through Medicare, Medicaid in many states, as well as a number of the traditional carriers.” She added, “You can learn a few CPT codes, how the system works, and which questions to ask in your particular state. That’s what we’ll cover in this convenient, fully recorded webinar.”

Dr. Maheu will:

  • Review which 3rd party insurers are paying and which CPT codes need to be used
  • Identify Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement requirements
  • Outline where to go to stay on top of this rapidly evolving area of telemental health billing, and
  • Which questions to ask of the insurance companies you are approaching to cover your telepractice sessions

If you are one of the thousands of behavioral clinicians currently considering telemental health or telebehavioral health certification, the next decision involves where to train. Factors to consider:

  • Which certification will best meet all your needs, quickly and conveniently?

You’ll also learn quite a bit more, because TBHI training is self-paced, meaning that you can stop and start it at your convenience. It has “essential points” at the top of every page, which is an outline that will help you orient yourself to the most important points on the page, and also give you clues as to what will be asked of you on the post-test, which you will need to pass with a grade of 80% or better to get the course completion certificate. Georgia’s shifting telemental health landscape has proved to be a challenge for local practitioners. When the Georgia Composite Board of Counselors, Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists released their Telemental Health rule 153-11-01 early this October, they put many new regulations in place for telehealth mediums (telephone, smartphone, video, PC, etc.) and mandated 6 hours of training for all clinicians using any form of technology to communicate with clients/patients (6 basic, plus 3 additional telesupervision hours for supervisors).

“Some clinicians were caught off guard by the Georgia Composite Board ruling,” Dr. Marlene Maheu, founder of the TeleMental Health Institute (TMHI), remarked, “and have been unable to meet their CE requirements. Because it can be difficult to find well-informed, in-person trainers, here at TMHI we provide a one-stop shop for all your online telemental health training needs, offered by a world-class faculty.”

This webinar contained very good information for those who have not taken any previous courses regarding telemental health.

In a bold and unprecedented move, and after two years of careful deliberations and notification, the Georgia Composite Board for the state’s Counselors, Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists voted to pass their Telemental Health rule 153-11-01, effective October 7, 2015. This regulatory board ruling is the first of its kind in the United States, in that it:

    • Defines telemental health with respect to the modalities involved, including:
      • Telephone
      • Video
      • Internet
      • Smartphone
      • Tablet
      • PC Desktop
      • Other electronic means
    • Requires 6 hours of training for all clinicians using any form of technology to conduct any form of contact with clients/patients (and 6 basic plus 3 additional telesupervision hours for supervisors), and
    • Stipulates training topics (otherwise known as “competency” areas)

Dr. Marlene Maheu, the founder of TeleMental Health Institute (TMHI), remarked, “We applaud Georgia’s Composite Board for its bold leadership. For more than 20 years, thousands of licensed professionals have been working online without professional training related to the scientific evidence base related to telemental health.” She continued, “The field has long needed courageous regulators to take a stand — and set the bar with required training. Georgia has now taken that courageous step.”
