Telehealth Jobs Course Description

With telehealth companies' recent investigations by the US Federal Trade Commission for various violations and the Office for Civil Rights investigations of HIPAA violations, finding appropriate employment by telehealth employers is fraught with unseen complications. Responsible clinicians have reported for years that they accept jobs from digital employers, only to realize that they do not follow the same rule book as seasoned clinicians. During this exciting Telehealth.org training event, guest speakers Laura Groshong, LICSW, the Clinical Social Work Association's Policy and Practice Director, is joined by Deborah Baker, JD, the American Psychological Association's Director of Legal and Regulatory Policy. Telehealth.org's Executive Director, Dr. Marlene Maheu, will host this event to help you make clear, practical, and responsible decisions when considering telehealth jobs. As highly experienced professionals working in telehealth for decades, this group of seasoned professionals will briefly outline the issues faced by responsible clinicians trying to work for telehealth employers and offer actionable solutions.

Topics

  • How to avoid the five biggest legal and ethical mistakes most often made by licensed clinicians working for online employers.
  • The essential information to look for on potential online employer's websites.
  • How to read contracts for telehealth jobs to identify potentially problematic clauses to discuss with your attorney.
  • How to decide if a company's technology will allow you to meet the many legal requirements required by licensing boards and professional association ethical codes.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the five mistakes that professionals tend to make involving legal and ethical, risk management requirements for licensure prior to accepting a telehealth job
  • Outline at least two core pieces of client/patient information that you will want to get prior to delivering care to any online consumer referred by a provider network
  • Intelligently discuss the contract that you sign with a provider network, and what it may need to include to protect you as well as your clients/patients
