Description

Selecting new clients and patients for a telehealth practice can be challenging, as telehealth is not for everyone. Telehealth requires cooperation and accommodations from all parties, and the ability to manage at least some technology. It also requires access to a reliable Internet connection, reliable equipment, and the ability to arrange for privacy. Yet more challenging is how to navigate the diagnostic, legal, and ethical issues that can quickly escalate to complicate a therapeutic relationship and keep even the best of clinicians up at night, worrying about correct policies and protocols, and how to terminate a telehealth relationship when it becomes unmanageable.

Designed to be highly interactive rather than a traditional lecture, this program will expose you to the facts and ask for your comments, your opinion, and your questions. It will explore the legal and ethical issues that can arise as professionals work across state lines, use different types of technology (telephone, video, apps), and reach into the future to outline innovative approaches to behavioral health screening and monitoring of progress.

Taught by world-class Telehealth.org faculty members this interactive training program can help you decide how to better choose whom to serve, how to refer them to other services if needed, and how to occasionally adapt the existing “rules” to accommodate potentially extenuating circumstances. The knowledge of how to make such adaptations comes from the extensive and hard-to-find field experience of these particular presenters, who have more than 50 years of combined telehealth knowledge in applying evidence-based, competencies to the delivery of telebehavioral health care.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify at least 3 research articles that illustrate evidence-based screening procedures for telemental and telebehavioral health.
  • Outline key legal and ethical issues involved in telehealth client and patient selection.
  • Intelligently discuss how to reasonably adapt and document existing telemental and telebehavioral health screening protocols to accommodate extenuating circumstances.

Really enjoyed the webinar. Dr. Wright was a perfect blend for your audience. She’s a great example of a practitioner who is still learning the ropes but is already successful in the intriguing field of telemental health. Good work by both of you. I expect to start working in the fall using these excellent tips. I will be back for more education through your pioneering organization!
