Description
Establishing a therapeutic in telehealth is unknown territory for many clinicians and their employers, regardless of how long they have been offering behavioral services in brick-and-mortar settings. Creating strong therapeutic alliances for delivering telebehavioral and telemental health service requires different competencies than in-person care — different knowledge, attitudes, and skills.
This fast-paced, 1-hour program will discuss a variety of factors that can help create strong therapeutic alliances. Sensitivity to a variety of telepresence factors is a pre-requite. Aware of how different states define the therapeutic relationship is key. Knowing how different states define telehealth is also key. (Knowing where to get such information is pivotal.) These topics as well as how to enhance your telepresence will be covered.
Designed to be highly interactive rather than a traditional lecture, this program will expose you to the facts and ask for your comments, your opinion, and your questions. It will explore the legal and ethical issues that can arise as professionals work toward building and strengthening therapeutic alliances through telehealth technologies. It will give you pointers about how to adjust your online clinical environment to be conducive for telebehavioral health; adjust your technology to facilitate the sense of presence; create an environment free from technological and other distractions; assess your clients’/patients’ communication styles and makes adjustments as needed for telebehavioral health. It will and reach into the future to outline innovative approaches to enhancing the therapeutic alliance through telemental and telebehavioral health.
