1 CME/CE Hour Available
Not surprisingly, behavioral clinicians are finding that patients and clients are increasingly asking for text therapy. Is may seem easy enough to use, but many professionals using this telehealth modality have not fully considered their legal or ethical requirements. Almost all of the national professional associations and regulatory board members in behavioral health are concerned about the text-messaging services currently being offered online, but neither of these groups has it within their purview to take a public stand — except to support education. That type of education is offered here at the telebehavioral Health Institute.
The issues explored in this TBHI webinar include a review of the legal and ethical issues required of all licensed professionals. The program will also discuss which types of text messaging platforms allow or don’t allow clinicians to be compliant with those mandates. (For example, does your texting platform allow you to conduct a full informed consent process if you don’t communicate using another channel?
Dr. Maheu will be joined by Special Guest Laura Groshong, MA, LCSW, Director, Policy and Practice, Clinical Social Work Association (CSWA) to discuss the role of associations, licensing boards, online employers as well as clinicians regarding the legal and ethical use of texting in behavioral healthcare. This program is for all licensed behavioral professionals, including psychologists, social workers, counselors, marriage and family therapists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians’ assistants and physicians themselves. Also, a CME or CE hour available, if needed.
Dr. Maheu has been an industry leader in telebehavioral health since 1994. With four textbooks, dozens of book chapters and journal articles to her name, as well as having educated more than 25,000 clinicians, she is in a unique position to guide you or your organization in finding a maximally profitable niche in this rapidly expanding market. She has given more than 400 professional presentations and is a master at quickly and accurately answering your questions with clear, actionable, evidence-based suggestions.
